I refused my vote

After showing my id card and putiing the ink mark on the finger i told the presiding officer that i would like to deny my vote to all the candidates on voting list. He said that all that i could do is REFUSE MY VOTE. So I wrote on the register REFUSING VOTE and signed. Mindyou all this in the presence of the political party agents sitting in the booth.

Therefore my vote was NOT A SECRET ONE. Is this not a infringement of my constitutional right? Whom should I approach to clarification, if not redressal, of my grievance?
It is my opinion that a sizable section of voters would opt to invalidate their votes if it can be done secretly. This is the section of the population who have like me, lost faith of and respect for each and every political party. Is there a single Party here untainted by corruption and nepotism, violence and terrorism and crass communalism? Is there a single Party which will not stoop to any devilish means to gain power? And is there a single Party which, once in power, will not try their very best to deny democratic rights to their critics and silence the opponents by mute force? Is there a single Party which can boast of a mass leader who can rise above sectarian or Party constraints?
And it is this percentage of voters, I believe, who, by voting for the lesser of the available devils or by showing their anger against incumbency, ultimately becomes the deciding factor in an election result.

To those of you who endorse the views expressed above, my request is this. STAND TALL AND BE COUNTED. Be bold enough to proclaim your contempt for the present leadership by REFUSING YOUR VOTE. Make apt use of this rare opportunity to make your voice heard loud and clear. MAKE YOUR PRESENCE FELT IN THIS ELECTION. You owe it to the democracy.

I'd totally agree with you,sir.
i feel there should be a right of secrecy for a voter when he/she wishes not to vote for the available candidate as well!

Sir, i agree with you.. Several representations are being made to incorporate 'i reject' button on the EVM.. If we stand united and pressurize the EC, I'm sure we can bring about that small change (which will change the face of Indian politics forever) at least for the next assembly polls!!

Why are we surprised when politicians play politics? It's not like they are supposed to be real adults . . . they are, after all, politicians and don't have real jobs and aren't playing around with their money.

I completely understand your thoughts though I don't quite agree with the way u've put it into action. Even I have absolutely no faith in any of these political parties.. forget the political parties I don't have faith in this whole system called democracy. But whatever it is, I still think its important to vote. To vote for the person who I think would do least harm to the people around me. To vote for the lesser evil. Because if my vote doesn't count it might not affect me personally but it might affect my neighbour or his neighbour or someone who might not be remotely related to me but is still a fellow countryman. Left, right, up, down doesn't matter but your vote could make that wee bit of difference that might eventually help someone. Your frustrations ae completely understandable and half of the country shares it. But the key here is to be patient. No one can build a country overnight and we have to do it step by step, brick by brick, day by day. And your vote could be that one step.
